THREE CHARISMATICS AMONG FIRST DEACONS FOR CARDIFF Spiro Sueref reports Twelve men were ordained to the permanent diaconate at St David's cathedral in Cardiff over the three Saturdays leading up to the 1st July. The twelve are the first deacons to be ordained in Cardiff. They all underwent a year of discernment and three years of study under the direction of Canon Peter Collins, the Director of the Permanent Diaconate for the archdiocese of Cardiff. He said, "Because these are people with wives , children and working skills their experiences and talents will add richness to the Church and their ministries. The deacons' priority will remain their families, work or career, then their diaconate duties." Among the deacons are three involved with the Charismatic
Renewal. Two, Anthony Martin and Peter McClaren have served on the NSC
for Wales in the past, and Rob Coyne, is currently a member of the Welsh
NSC with his wife Sue. Rob and Sue were also part of the original group
that launched the Sion Community for Evangelisation 20 years ago.
