NEW DAWN FOR YOUTH

The youth ministry at the annual New Dawn conference (30th July – 4th Aug), which takes place at the national marian shrine at Walsingham, has been totally revamped this year. It even has a new name “Cross-streams” at New Dawn. Adrian Cummins, one of the youth team, who first came to New Dawn in 1990 when he was eleven years old commented. “The Lord told us that He wants to send us more people this year and so we need to get ready. This was a real nudge for us to get organised and have a stronger provision for young people. The name Cross Steam is related to where the camp is situated between the wooden cross we have on site and the stream that runs through the camp. It is also a reminder to us to be open to the cross wind of the Holy Spirit.” There are two youth streams, one for 11-14 year olds and another for 15 plus. There is also a youth camp for people to bring their tents for 16 plus age group.

Before the Cross Stream team even began improving the publicity or setting up the new web site, the phone already began ringing with people telling them they intended to bring youth groups to the conference. Among the list of speakers this year are the ever popular, Fr Stan Fortuna CFR from the Bronx, Marino Restrepo from Columbia who also has a music background and has an amazing testimony after being kidnapped by guerrillas, David Harp from Flame ministry who was healed from AIDS and Frs John Bashibora and Anthony Musaala from Uganda, Sr Maria Natella OP, Emily Davis and Ros Powell. There will also be members of Crossbeam, Luminous and Breath music groups.

A special youth package has been worked out which includes conference fees, coach trip from either London or Liverpool and food for ?90 for the 5 days. details of this log on to their web site www.cross-stream.com or contact Adrian 0794 6632199 or Adrian.cummins@gmail.com

IRISH NATIONAL CONFERENCE

The Irish national conference had not taken place when the magazine went to press, but it will have by the time you read Goodnews. The proposed speakers were Fr Tom Forrest CSSR from the USA and Frances Hogan, the Irish scripture teacher and Bishop Martin Drennan and it took place in Athlone from 22nd-24th June. A report of what happened will appear in the next Goodnews.

Change for CELEBRATE Conference

After 4 weeks of prayer, consultation, and discernment, the Celebrate Core Group has decided to hold a number of non-residential “CELEBRATE WEEKENDS” in different parts of the country in 2008. This will allow many more people to experience CELEBRATE locally at a much lower cost, and the Core Group will be organising a training weekend for the teams running the new CELEBRATE WEEKENDS. Full details of the venues, dates etc. of the weekends, which will take place between Easter and October next year, will be available in due course through GOODNEWS, and will also be sent to all those who have requested information about 2008. The Core Group has been looking at ways of expanding CELEBRATE and bringing it to local areas, and the complications of different dates around the country for next year’s school Easter holidays make 2008 an ideal time to do this. So there will not be a CELEBRATE CONFERENCE in Ilfracombe in 2008, but we will be back there as usual in 2009 from Easter Sunday, April 10th to the following Saturday, April 16th. We are sure that the new weekends will prove to be very popular, and will allow many CELEBRATE regulars to introduce friends and fellow parishioners to what CELEBRATE has to offer. There will also be a special “JOEL’S BAR” Conference during 2008, the details of which are still being worked out. C.W.
