Intercession

Entering the Throne Room

Fiona Hendy, from the House of the Open Door Community, who is the co-ordinator of the Network of Intercessors for the NSCs in the UK and Ireland, begins a regular column, where she reflects on what she and the intercessors are sensing through their prayers at this time.

“Behold I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut”.
(Rev 3 v8)

The Network of Intercessors was set up in June 2005 to pray specifically for the gathering of leaders of the renewal at the “Newman Consultation.” Since then this group has been continuing to pray together for the work of the NSC, the Renewal and the Church with prayer and fasting on the second Friday of each month.

Our intercessors have been feeling that we are entering into a special time of Grace, the New Springtime that John Paul II referred to, and that we are being granted unprecedented access to the throne of God. The call is urgent!

Another reading we have been given was Jeremiah 12:5 “If you find it exhausting to race against me on foot how will you compete against horses? In a country at peace you feel secure, but how will you fare in the thickets of the Jordan?” There is a sense that we are in a time of peace now, but things may be more difficult in the future. So it is important to respond now to the call to prayer. God is inviting us to His Throne room to enter into intercession with His Son, with heartfelt groanings, praying in the Spirit, for “The Spirit personally makes our petitions for us in groans that cannot be put into words. And He who can see into all hearts knows what the Spirit means because the prayers that the Spirit makes for God’s holy people are always in accordance with the mind of God.” (Rom 8v 26-27)

It has been good to have contact with NSC members from Wales who are eager to link up in intercession. They felt that as we join together in prayer we will be strengthened by the unity between us. One thing that stops us interceding is discouragement. Heb 10 v35 –36, 39 says “ Do not lose your fearlessness now, since the reward is so great…you will need perseverance to do God’s will and gain what he has promised. … We are not the sort of people who draw back…”

So intercessors, go forward in faith knowing that God hears our cry! If you want to find out more about the Network of intercessors click here.
