Charles
and I are leaving for Australia tomorrow, and I must write this column
before I go! It's a funny thing about "The Other Half" -
I really do have to wait for inspiration to strike, and I'm often
on my knees reminding God that "this is the deadline day"
and Kristina will be ringing me to find out where it is!
Anyway recently I was talking to someone who was trying to sell their
house. They were very concerned because they had had very few people
looking at it, but I pointed out that you only need one person to
buy the house, so who needs the inconvenience of lots of others viewing?
Try to relax! I think that's how God works sometimes - there's no
sign of anything happening and then, suddenly it all comes together.
I think it works like this - God always answers our prayers straight
away, but sometimes he gives the answer to Fred - a tortoise. Fred
sets out with the answer, very slowly, and as long as we keep praying
and expecting the answer, Fred keeps moving. But when we stop, Fred
stops! That's why nothing appears to be happening, but God really
has it all under control and the answer will arrive at the right time.
So if we are trying to live our lives in God's plan, we can trust
him to keep us on the right path. We mightn't see a lot of activity,
but then after all, we only need the final solution.
It's not always easy to wait patiently for the Lord to act, but at
least we know that He loves us and wants to be involved in our lives.
How hard it must be to live without the knowledge of His love when
times are hard. The hope we have while waiting far outweighs the despondency
of helplessness we would otherwise experience.
Thank you, Lord, for lovingly meeting my needs - especially The Other
Half, today!
