Pray for a Bishop


 

Martin DrennanNAME: Martin Drennan

DIOCESE: Dublin (auxiliary bishop)

ORDAINED PRIEST: 16th June 1968

ORDAINED BISHOP: 21st September 1997

BACKGROUND: Born 2nd January 1944 in Kilkenny. Studied at Maynooth seminary and the Biblical Institute in Rome. Two years of parish work at St Mary’s Cathedral, Kilkenny and Ballycallan parishes. Taught Scripture in St Kieran’s College, Kilkenny (1973-80) and at Maynooth College (1985-97). Spiritual Director at the Irish College, Rome (1980-85). Auxiliary Bishop in Dublin since 1997 with responsibility for Educational matters.

SPECIAL AREAS OF INTEREST: Chairman of the Commission for Catechetics. A member of the Commission for priesthood/ seminaries and also member of the Joint Commission (Priests and Religious working together). Liaison person for the Charismatic Renewal.

DREAM FOR THE CHURCH: That through prayer we would deepen and renew our joy in the gospel and find fresh energy for evangelisation.

PRAYER REQUEST: That, like Mary at Cana, our prayer would invite Christ to enter into our need, our shame and transform us and our situation into one of hope and celebration of his presence.
