| Vision of Goodnews

As you will have been aware, since Pentecost this year we have been producing a new look Goodnews, with more pages and a colour cover. This is part of our response to the Pope’s call to the lay movements to ecclesial maturity and service to the wider Church. Through Charismatic Renewal we have discovered the grace of the Baptism in the Spirit and a new openness to the Holy Spirit and its charisms. This experience and understanding as Cardinal Suenens told us, however, is for the whole Church. We see Goodnews as a tool in introducing the wider Church to our insights and the charismatic dimension, without them necessarily feeling they have to join a particular movement. As we know living life in the Holy Spirit is not simply about the charisms and using the gifts of the Holy Spirit but about submitting one’s whole life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. This affects every area of life from the way we spend our money to our sexual relationships and our attitude to social justice issues. While retaining our charismatic roots, and promoting the baptism in the spirit as a key grace, we have also been seeking to broaden the scope of our articles, to include any that we feel will help people grow spiritually and equip them to face the challenges of our particular day. For Goodnews to grow as we feel it should, we need the help of all our readers as we have a small office and a very limited budget. We want to thank everyone who has already been helping us: we know how hard you work! The way most new people get to hear about Goodnews is through a friend passing on a copy or buying them a gift subscription. Some of our readers buy extra copies and leave them at the back of their local church. Maybe you can think of other ways in which you can help us promote the magazine. In an effort to raise to funds to pay for some of these new initiatives this year, as last year, we have produced a lovely calendar with beautiful photos and verses from proverbs. These are £5 each. All the profit we make will be used to help pay for the expenses incurred in producing this new style Goodnews.
