LETTERS TO GOODNEWS

a hand writing

Dear Goodnews

I wondered if you knew of a scheme that has been running in our parish for some time at Our Lady of the Rosary and St Patricks at Walthamstow in East London. We have set up a special Mass link for the housebound using tele-conferencing. This means that 13 people can listen to the Mass live from their homes via the telephone. There is even time for a social chat among participants before and after the service. Occasionally a housebound parishioner reads the lesson from home, which is relayed to the congregation via the voice point. We have also used the Link to enable families overseas to listen to and participate in special services.

As a visitor to some of these housebound parishioners I can vouch for the joy this Mass Link brings them and for the way each of them look forward to their being part of the community in the celebration of the Mass. I wondered if other parishes might be interested. We fund raised for the cost of setting up the initial Mass link which was £650. The ongoing cost for ten participants is £120. We have been helped in setting all this up by Community Network, a registered charity in Islington. They can be contacted on 020 7359 4594.

Yours,

Mrs E Adams, London E4
