PAX CHRISTI PRAYER FOR PEACE IN IRAQ AND THE MIDDLE EAST
At a time of war and rumours of war we come to you, God Creator. You are the source of life and beauty and power. Your son Jesus is the way of faith and hope and love. Your Spirit is the fire of love, the fount of wisdom, the bond of unity. You call us at all times to be people of the beatitudes, Witnesses to the Gospel of peace and love and forgiveness. You call us at this time, when war and rumours of war, weigh heavily On the peoples of Iraq and the Middle East. Their lives are already broken by suffering and violence. We renew our acceptance of your call. We promise to work: To bring the light of the Gospel to those living in darkness, To bring the hope of the Gospel to those living in despair, To bring the healing of the Gospel to the lonely, the disadvantaged, the marginalised, And to bring the peace of the gospel to a divided world.
AMEN

FR JOSEPH BILL “Healing Priest” COMING TO IRELAND AND ENGLAND IN 2003
Kerala in India has become a real mission sending area of the world. One of its most popular missionary sons is Fr Joseph Kuruppamparambil – better know as Fr Bill – a Vincentian priest, who travels the world giving healing retreats. His itinerary is almost superhuman as he criss-crosses the continents belying his 74 years. This is all the more extraordinary when one learns that when he was 48 he had two such severe heart attacks that it looked as if he would be an invalid for the rest of his life. He was invited to participate in the first retreat organised by the charismatic movement in Kerala, attended by 163 priests and two bishops. During the retreat, after being prayed over, he was baptised in the Holy Spirit and totally healed. As a result he asked his order if he could be relieved of his administrative duties so he could concentrate on preaching the Word of God. He later discovered that God had also given him a powerful healing gift, and found his preaching was accompanied by signs and wonders. He began to conduct seven-day retreats and healing Masses and Popular Missions, first in India, then in Africa and in more recent years in many Western countries too including Ireland. Although the crowds come because of his healing gift, Fr Bill’s desire is to see not just physical healing but spiritual and moral conversion too, and many conversions to Christ come during the retreat as he opens up the Word of God for retreatants. He explains “At my age, I could be sitting by the fire with a nice whisky in front of the television, but I love Jesus and the people, this is why I travel all over the world, because I must tell them the Good News of the Gospel and how Jesus has died to save us from our sins.”
