Full Immersion for Anne
Full immersionAnne Edwards, wife of John, one of the volunteers at our office, was received into the Catholic Church at Easter at Our Lady's in Farnham, Surrey. A former Unitarian minister, Anne received a revelation of Christ in the Mass at the Celebrate conference a couple of years ago and knew that she had to become a Catholic. Not content with a dribble of water Anne felt she wanted "full immersion" and husband John, who's something of a handyman, built her a rather ingenius baptistery to oblige. Its coffin-like shape, only added to the symbolism of the deep meaning of baptism - dying to our old way of life and being born again in Christ. As John is training for the diaconate in the Arundel and Brighton diocese, other would-be catechumens might be able to get him to bring it out in the future for them too!

GOODBYE LUCIA....…and thank you!
Lucia OssaGoodnews readers will be sad to learn that Lucia Ossa, who has so ably done the subscription and marketing for Goodnews, had to return to Columbia at the beginning of June, when her visa renewal request was refused. We will miss her, for her vivacity, charm and dedication and love of "her friends" as she thought of all the readers of Goodnews. In the four years that she worked for Goodnews, she helped almost treble the subcriptions to Goodnews, which has changed from being the newsletter of the charismatic renewal in England to a magazine serving the Church in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Emily Towner, a young woman, who has recently completed a year at the Soho School of Mission with Fr Alex Sherbrooke, will be joining the Goodnews team for the summer to help out. Please pray for Lucia and for us, that we will keep up the good work she started.

BOOKS - Smith Wigglesworth
Many people in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal have recently been led to read the writings of Smith Wigglesworth, one of the early 20th century Pentecostal preachers who was famous for his preaching and healing ministry. Although Roman Catholics would not agree with all his theology (ie tongues is an essential sign of the baptism in the Holy Spirit) no one can be failed to be inspired and challenged by his single hearted love and enthusiasm for the Lord and his faith in the power of God to do all things.
Smith Wigglesworth On the Holy Spirit (Collection of Sermons) published by Whitaker House price £4.95
The Secret of Smith Wigglesworth’s Power a Biography by Peter J. Madden £4.95
