THE OTHER HALF

the other half

Sue Whitehead I've made a few visits to the airport recently to meet people. I love it! The arrival point in airports is a wondrous place to be. Families are waiting in eager anticipation to be reunited with loved ones. The children are especially excited - finding it hard to stand still and yet loath to move from their vantage places where they might be "the first to see them!" I know there's frustration when planes are late but, even then, the happiness doesn't get totally destroyed because, after all, "they'll soon be here".

I watched a lady submerged under six exuberant teenagers, who couldn't wait for her to reach the end but jumped the barriers to fling their arms around her. (Actually, they were French!) I've talked to lots of waiting people who had lovely stories to tell - children returning home after years away; families coming with new members not yet seen; friends coming to visit or just returning from holidays. So many stories to tell and so much to catch up on.

Do you know - I think going to heaven will be a bit like that. I like to think that there will be folk waiting excitedly to greet us as we arrive -people who have gone before us and who love us dearly. Maybe there will be angels bouncing up and down, hardly able to contain the excitement at the arrival of another soul. I'm not sure of the theology but I do think we will be reunited with those we love, and where better than at the "arrival gate"!

Unlike airport arrivals, no-one will be left to figure out where to go or what to do next. Each of us will be so welcome - a child returning to our father. We might be a bit bemused by it all, but I think we'll like it. We are told by Jesus that there is "rejoicing in heaven" (Luke 15:7) and after all, everyone loves rejoicing!
