We are all reluctant to ask for help. It hurts our pride. It suggests we cannot cope on our own. St Paul, in 2 Corinthians 8 and 9, did not seem to suffer from this reluctance. He bluntly asks the Charismatic Christians in Corinth to provide him with funds. He congratulates them on their past generosity, states he has been holding them out as an example to the Macedonians and mentions that he would hate his boasting to have been hollow. So he asks them to avoid embarrassment, his and theirs, by making an extra generous gift, not one grudgingly given. For God loves a cheerful giver and God is able to make grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need you will abound in every good work. As a Trustee of Crew Trust (the parent Charity for Goodnews and Catholic Evangelisation Services, which produces the CaFE Videos) I am asking for your help. In 2005 we, like many other charities, have seen a marked decrease in our income from donations. The production of the Youth CaFE video series drained our reserves and without the receipt of a substantial legacy, for which we are profoundly grateful to God, we would not have been able to complete that project. We hope to produce further series - including a series aimed at 18- 25 year olds and one for the parents of children making their first Holy Communion, similar in format to the one on Baptism which was launched in 2004 - but it depends on funds being made available. The income we receive from sales does not cover the full costs as we try to keep prices low to make the series available to as many people and parishes as possible. Goodnews magazine has not increased its subscription price since 2001. Since then it has increased in size from 24 pages to 36 and has a much more attractive glossy front cover. In addition we have extended our circulation into Ireland and spent a considerable amount in supporting its circulation there. We do not take paid advertising and the subscription income does not cover its costs. It therefore relies on donations to continue in being. A few moments reflection will help you realise that to write, edit, print and deliver the Goodnews into your hands costs much more than the cover price. You can Help You can help. Please do not forget the staff of Goodnews, Catholic Evangelisation Services and the Crew Trustees in your prayers. Help us to spread the Goodnews. Standing Orders or gifts by credit card or cheque can be made by using the enclosed form. In the UK please use the enclosed reply paid envelope. If your donation can be gift aided that makes it even more valuable, just complete the declaration on the form and send it with your donation. Or you may wish to add a gift when renewing your subscription form. If you wish to support Crew Trust but are not in a position to give financially at the moment, you could help us to continue our work by leaving a gift in your will. By remembering us in this way you can ensure that Crew Trust (the parent charity for Goodnews and Catholic Evangelisation Services) continues its ministry of supporting the work of spiritual renewal. Making a will is not difficult and it is important to have one and to keep it up to date. This will make things much easier for your loved ones at a time of grief. With a bit of planning you can ensure that what you leave behind benefits the people and the causes that you care about and does not get spent on legal fees or go to the taxman. Many people leave money to charities in their will (as a fixed amount or a percentage of what is left over after all the expenses and other gifts) as these are not subject to Inheritance Tax and any stocks, shares or property given do not attract Capital Gains Tax. If you havent made a will why not ask your solicitor, or a professional independent will maker, financial advisor or accountant. If you would like to support our work by remembering us in your will we suggest you use the following wording: I give to the Crew Trust (Charity Number 277425) of Allen Hall, 28 Beaufort Street, London SW3 5AA, either £................... or ........% share of the residue of my estate, for the general purposes of the Crew Trust and I direct that the receipt of a Trustee shall be a good and sufficient discharge to my executors. However you decide to help, by prayer or financially or both I want to assure you that Crew Trust will continue to spread the Goodnews in every way we can.
