The Other Half The Other Half

A leopard cant change his spots and neither can you. Youll never be any different really! So said one of my oldest friends after listening to me describing what my faith means to me. I have thought about this quite a lot since then. Was it true? Was it impossible to change? I was sure I could change - I was sure I had! But how could I equate that with her quote? I knew the proverb came from the Bible and I eventually found it in Jeremiah, but it wasnt until last week that it all fell into place. At our prayer group we have been looking at Proverbs and I talked about my afore-mentioned problem. Instant answer from one of our group, Of course no-one can change themselves - only Jesus can do it! I knew that all the time. No-one can change themselves - a leopard cannot change his (own) spots - but we will be changed by the presence of Christ living in us. He will change us. In Him we are a new creation! I am so happy to hear again the good news about my life in Christ. Another friend, whom I first met when I was 4yrs old, said that she thought that I was much quieter now! (Some of you might find that difficult to believe.) My family certainly find me more tolerant and less argumentative. Day by day there are opportunities for the grace of God to change my attitudes and reactions. I do love the words of a song by Marilyn Baker Jesus, you are changing me, Ive said it before and Ill say it again - My Father in heaven loves me exactly as I am today - but He loves me too much to leave me there! That is true for each one of His children. No exceptions! You and I are being changed daily - we are fulfilling the potential He sees within us. We are growing into the people He created us to be. Exciting, isnt it? © Sue Whitehead
