OPEN THE DOORS FESTIVAL OF FAITH
The Westminster Diocese is holding an evangelistic outreach
over the weekend of 14th-16th July and the preceding week.
Each parish has been invited to organise something during
this time. The Cathedral parish itself will have a kind of
summer-fair on the piazza selling food and organising all
kinds of fun activities for passers by, to get them interested
in the life of the Cathedral and the Church.
Four of the other West End parishes are organising 40 hours
of Eucharistic Adoration between them. They will process between
their churches of Corpus Christi in Covent Garden, Notre Dame
de France off Leicester Square, Our Lady of the Assumption
and St Gregory in Warwick Street and St Patrick's in Soho
Square. In the evenings there will be times of catechesis
and formation for young people like at World Youth Day. They
will also be various street missionary outreaches. Further

TEACHINGS OF JESUS FOR ALL FAITHS
To commemorate the anniversary or Dei Verbum, the Catholic
Bible School in Mumbai, India have produced an imaginative
new publication to encourage people to read the Scriptures.
Colour-fully illustrated in a story book rormat, the book
uses the Bible text to tell the life story of Jesus. It also
excerpts some or his key wisdom sayings. These are themed
under titles such as "The Use or Wealth", "Importance
or Reconciliation," "Attitude towards enemies".
The authors, Fr Fio Mascarenhas SJ and Dr Renu Rita Silvano
hope to get people, who might not otherwise read the bible,
consider it. ideal for giving to those who are not Christians
but are interested in spirituality, particularly those from
other raiths who might be put off by a normal bible. Priced

NEW ART EXHIBITION OF ELIZABETH WANG PAINTINGS
IN LONDON
Those who are inspired by Christian art will be pleased
to know that there is a new Elizabeth Wang exhibition at the
French Church, off Leicester Square, in central London. "Finding
Christ, Finding Life", has many new and rarely seen pictures
by Elizabeth, whose work has adorned many books and publications,
including Goodnews. The exhibition lasts from 1st July-24th
September 2006. Entrance free. Church open daily 9.30am-7.30pm
(exhibition closed during services). On Saturday 9th September
there will be a time of prayer and reflection at the church
from 2pm-3.30pm to go with the exhibition theme and will include
talks by Mgr Keith Barltrop, Sr Amadeus Bulger and Elizabeth
Wang, the painter herself. Elizabeth's work is also available
at the Radiant Light online art gallery which was launched
last year. This has 250 picture and 15 exhibitions. You can

RIP BISHOP CHARLES HENDERSON
Bishop Charles Henderson, auxiliary bishop in Southwark
died 10th April 2006, aged 82. He had a special heart for
Christian unity and was an active participant on many of the
post Vatican II commissions in the UK. On one occasion he
said, "We have achieved in my lifetime as a bishop, the
undoing of the damage of the Reformation." He was also
given a special responsibility for inter-faith dialogue. "Friendship"
he commented, "is the basis of all engagement in dialogue.
Without it nothing else happens." Bishop Hendersond was
also a great supporter of the new ecclesial movements particularly
the Focolare, the Neo-catechumenale way and St Egidio.
20th ANNIVERSARY OF THE NEW DAWN CONFERENCE THIS SUMMER
The New Dawn conference, which takes place annually at
the marian shrine of Walsingham in Norfolk, this August celebrates
its 20th anniversary. The usual rosta of exciting speakers
are lined up. For the first time Marcellino D'Ambrosio well
known for his videos on exploring the Catholic Church, and
his articles for Goodnews, will be there.
POTTA RETREAT THIS AUTUMN
This autumn there will be another retreat at St George's
Cathedral in Southwark led by a team of priests from the Divine
Retreat Centre in Potta, India. The event will take place
13th-15th September and will have a morning and afternoon
programme. Among those participating will be founder Fr Matthew
Nam
.. Fr Augustine Vallooran and Fr George Panikal.
The last time the event was held at the cathedral about 700-800
people came each day - even though it was during the day during
