EVENING OF RENEWAL IN MENEVIA

For the first time in several years the Menevia diocese held an evening of renewal. It took place on May 17th in the hall of the Catholic primary school in Aberystwyth. The team came from all over Wales and beyond. They were: Mgr Bottrill, the Vicar general of the diocese and chaplain to CCR in Wales, Julie and Dave Hartley, who led the prayer and praise, Spiro Sueref, who led the prayer ministry and Saundra Storch. Others came from Bangor, Fishguard and Narberth. The evening attracted a good number of people from the parish and a few university students. Almost all those prayed with at the end of evening rested in the spirit – a new experience for most of them! The evening was such a success that the team have already had tentative requests from two other parishes to do something similar.

THE WELSH NATIONAL CONFERENCE TO MOVE

There are changes afoot for the Welsh National Conference. This year the Conference will be held two weeks earlier than usual from 8th-11th August 2006. The speakers this year are Charles Whitehead and Fr Matthew Jones. The Conference has been held at Trinity College in Carmarthen since its inception in 1979 but this will be the last year at the site. The growing cost of hiring the college, and falling numbers have made it less and less economically viable. The location moreover is not very accessible for the majority of people who do come. Thus after much prayer and reflection, the conference team have decided that from 2007 onwards the conference will move round Wales each year. Next year it will take place in the Wrexham diocese.

One of the biggest challenges facing the team has been the inability in recent years to provide any form of youth conference – for a variety of reasons. They hope this will change in the future as they are planning to appoint a new youth co-ordinator. Details of future Welsh events see coming events and http://www.ccrw.org.uk
