The Other Half The Other Half

Many years ago a friend told me that there were three ways to live life: 1 - Make things happen 3 - Wonder what happened! As a Christian I've tried to find out what God is doing and to get involved in it so that although He's making it happen I am helping. St Augustine said: Without God, we cannot. Without us, He will not. It puts us in a very interesting place. God needs us to help. It's that "free will thing" again - we do have a choice! I know that He will find a way to fulfil His plans if we are really stubborn but it would be very sad to miss the opportunity to be used by God. So often we feel inadequate for a task but I think it's wonderful to know that if God's in charge He'll supply all that is needed. I'm reminded of the following story... It is a little boy's birthday and his father goes with him to look in his toy cupboard. It is so full that his father tells him that there is no room for anything else except, maybe, something very small. A few hours later his son comes to fetch him and drags him to look in the cupboard once more. It's nearly empty - plenty of room for anything his father wants to give him! It's amazing how easy it is to get rid of things if we really want something else. Sometimes our lives are so full that there is little room for God to give us anything - and He has so much that He wants to provide - blessings, giftings, even ministries, which need space to grow and develop. I'm sure that we could make that space - it all depends on our priorities. As long as I have health and energy, I want to be in category 1. I'm sure the time will come when I fall into category 2 - but then I trust I will be supporting others with prayers and encouragement. Not inactive - just differently used. I'm sure there will be occasions when I wonder what happened - often because God has achieved the impossible and I am amazed! - but I'm hoping category 3 will never be my permanent style. If that should happen, I hope I'll be able to realign my sights on the Lord. As long as I live I would like to be useful to God - confident that His plans are possible and honoured to be helping to bring them to fruition.
