O Lord, all the world belongs to you, A hymn I love! I was thinking of writing about something totally different this morning. I had been very hurt by something recently and was wondering, while in church, as to how I could write it without it becoming a monologue of complaints! Anyway, I suddenly had the above words running through my head and I realised that - “What is wrong, you forgive.” That’s pretty hard quite often and, to be honest, rarely an easy option, but it’s the NEXT phrase which makes it possible. “..the NEW LIFE you give…” Isn’t that amazing? I was overwhelmed, yet again, by the truth of that. I have NEW LIFE. Given to me freely. No, not freely - given to me because Jesus wanted me to have it and He was willing to pay any price to make that come true. All it cost me was my sin. Because of the new life, I have been made new. Because of the new life I have a different focus in my life - a different priority. Because of the new life, actually WANT to forgive. And that’s what will turn “..the world upside down.” The secular world seems to be trying very hard to redirect our thinking into “my systems, my needs and my rights.” But the NEW LIFE is the fruit of the Spirit manifesting itself daily in us. The fruit of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. These are qualities which are not universally prevalent today. They are, however, the new life in us and we should be showing them in our lives. Not just at prayer groups, in church or at conferences - but also where we work and relax, and certainly, within our family circles! “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” (Gal 5:25) and the world will be turned upside down! © Sue Whitehead
