CHANGES AT THE SION COMMUNITY

Vicky & AndyThere have been quite a few changes recently at the Sion community. Peter Moran, who has been the leader of the Sion community for 16 years has stepped down, and is on a well earned sabbatical. The new community leader is Vicky Bunting, who is Spanish and married to Andy Bunting. David and Sarah Beresford have also moved on from running the Sion Youth Ministry. David now runs “The Eli Perspective”, a youth ministry training course for the Arundel and Brighton diocese and Sarah runs the Walsingham House youth retreat centre for the diocese of Brentwood.

EVANGELISTIC CATHOLIC FESTIVAL IN THE HEART OF LONDON

Procession through LondonSpirit in the City, the annual initiative of the four central London Churches to reach out to the City with a joint celebration and evangelistic event, this year takes place from 11th-13th June 2009. At the heart is 40 hours of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and candlelit Eucharistic processions between the four churches. There are talks by speakers such as Fr Stephen Wang and Abbot Christopher Jamieson from Worth Abbey. On the 13th June there is a Catholic festival in Leicester Square Gardens. Here an entire afternoon is given over to live music on stage with Catholic artists, a discussion tent, workshops, reconciliation tent and street evangelisation teams, with stalls with information on various Catholic charities and groups. Those who are interested in helping in any way or sending a team, please contact the main co-ordinator on 020 7025 1598 or log onto www.spiritinthecity.org

If you are going to be in London at the time, why not drop by on the 13th. Last year Goodnews was among the groups that had a stall and many other Catholic groups, such as Youth2000, the St Patrick’s Gospel Choir and Jesus Youth were also there.

GOODBYE GARY

GaryAnother of our long serving pioneers of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal has recently passed away. Gary Bowyer, who was the chairman of the London Day of Renewal and a leader in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in the South East of England for many years died aged 89 at St Christopher’s Hospice. As a young man he had a distinguished military career. In later life he was a banker and in retirement, as well as his commitment to the CCR and his local parish in Beckenham, he did a lot in the Surrey area to help the underprivileged. He leaves a wife and three children.

HELP!!! WE ARE UPDATING OUR PRAYER GROUP LIST!

The NSC is updating our prayer group list and if you have a prayer group you should have received a letter from Eileen O’Kane asking you for your details. So far only 17% of the people have responded.

If you haven’t received one, because our contact details are wrong, or you have started a new group or your prayer group has stopped, please write to her and let her know. It is really important that we have an up to date list, as we often get requests from people moving into a new area who want the details of local prayer groups.

Three are for regular annual events The Harvesters’ Men’s weekends, 12th-14th June (Glasgow) and 10th-12th July (Surrey) the New Dawn Conference, the Birmingham Conference and the fourth is details of how to buy David Payne’s exciting new book. Other exciting events coming up are the Catholic Miracle Rally 23rd-24th May (see coming events) and Ros Powell ministering in the power of the Holy Spirit at the cathedral in Cardiff 22nd-23rd May. And Fr Pat Collins speaking at University College Dublin on Pentecost Saturday.
