Suzanne Guy from Chelmsford tells how she was healed of back trouble at a day of Renewal.

In 1995 I had a very profound healing at a Day of Renewal through the Bishop of Willesdon, Graham Dow. I had been suffering from severe back pain for several months and had been unable to walk at one stage. However, while I was improving, I still had terrible pain and was woken every night unable to move until I had mobilised a little. The night before the Day of Renewal I prayed very simply “you can heal me if you want, I don’t have to wait…” It was the first night I had not woken in excruciating pain, but still had pain in the lower back.

During the service, Bishop Graham Dow, an Anglican Bishop, asked people to come to the front as there were people with back, knee, neck pain etc. I knew there must be many like this, but I went forward. When he laid hands on me and prayed in tongues, I felt immediate heat and warmth and knew something powerful had happened. I walked back to my pew perfectly upright, without pain, and completely healed.

The episode did more than just heal my back and make me comfortable again. It has been a constant reminder of the truth that God hears our prayers and still heals in this day. I have never forgotten it and have told the story numerous times, which has gone on to bless many more people. So I believe God often heals for His own purposes, not necessarily for our immediate comfort and healing, although he does that too. We have a powerful and amazing God.

Veronica Winn, from Tunbridge Wells, tells how two years ago she was healed of a back condition she has suffered from for 30 years through the ministry of Joe Dalton.

It is nearly thirty years since I damaged a disc in my spine. From that time my back often went out of shape and into spasm. I had to be very careful but still spent time in pain and at the osteopath. About four years ago I fell off the loft ladder and landed with my back wedged against the banisters. The pain was dreadful and for several nights I had to sleep sitting up as my back was too sore to lie on. Gradually the pain in my back lessened but so did the movement. I could hardly reach my feet to fasten my shoes, I had to kneel to weed or prune plants and I developed a pain in my ankle if I walked for more than about five minutes. I knew I would eventually have to go to someone for help, but the slightest touch hurt and I was afraid the damage would be made worse.

Then two years ago Joe Dalton came to a neighbouring parish. During the healing service he invited people with back problems to go forward for prayer. I remember thinking that if Jesus was there offering to heal me it would be silly not to go so I joined the line of people sitting at the front. I didn’t expect anything to happen instantly but I hoped it would be a turning point and that my back would gradually improve. When Joe reached me and held my feet and prayed I felt the base of my spine rotate about 90 degrees. If you shut your eyes, keep your elbow still and rotate your arm you will have some idea of what I felt. But I was not moving anything, the Lord was! All the movement returned to my back and since that moment I have had no pain. I can walk, dance, garden, sit, drive and sleep without problems and my back has the strength it had not had for 30 years.
