19th JUNE 2009 – 19th JUNE 2010 YEAR OF PRIESTS
This coming year has been designated by Pope Benedict as a year to pray in a special way for priests. So it is a good opportunity to thank God for all the priests who have faithfully served us in the CCR. We would like to draw particular attention to four special 80 year olds, who have been involved since the very early days. FR SEAN CONATY, former NSC member and long time leader in the CCR, from the Hexham and Newcastle diocese, who this year celebrates his 80th Birthday in October and who celebrated his 55th anniversary to the priesthood in June. He is a spring chicken, however, compared to DOM BENEDICT HERON OSB, who although in poor health, is 88 and still manages to go to the weekly prayer group in Cockfosters, north London, where he is their chaplain. FR. MICHAEL KILLEEN, from the Hallam diocese, is also 88. Now in a nursing home he still gives talks and retreats! Another active octogenarian and former NSC member is FR MIKE GWINNELL who is 85 in September, and although officially in retirement is still ministering.

Tour of the relics of ST Therese of Lisieux in England and Wales
Arriving at Portsmouth Cathedral (16th Sept) and finishing at Westminster Cathedral (16th Oct) the relics of St Therese of Lisieux will be taken on a tour of England and Wales this year for a month. The Catholic Church is using the visit as a focus for evangelisation. St Therese, although she lived an enclosed life in a Carmelite monastery, is the patroness of the missions. Wherever her relics have been, to date 40 countries, there have been conversions to Christ, healings, renewed sense of vocation and answers to prayer. This is the first time the relics have been brought to England. For a full list of the places where the relics will be displayed, log on to www.catholicchurch.org.uk
