NIGHT OF LIGHT
Instead of the traditional Halloween party on 31st October
why not organise a Night of Light Celebration instead, restoring
the true meaning of Halloween which is the eve of the feast
of All Saints. Cor et Lumen Christi who launched the initiative
some years ago have a great web site with posters and leaflets
that can be downloaded and useful suggestions for activities
for children and adults. Ideas include having adoration of
the Blessed Sacrament or a Mass in your church, or lighting
candles in your windows at home and having a fancy dress party
with children dressed as their favourite saint instead of

NEW ELIZABETH WANG EXHIBITION
An exhibition entitled “The Mystery of Faith”, showing
new striking and evocative paintings by contemporary Catholic
mystic Elizabeth Wang have been on view this summer at the
Carmelite Church, Kensington High Street, London.You still
have time to see them as the exhibition ends 31st October
2009. The Church is open 7am to 7pm.
LITTLE WAY WEEK
18th-24th Church is open 7am to 7pm. October “They will
know Him by the good works that you do” As a follow up
to this year’s Home Mission Sunday on 20th September,
CASE (Catholic Agency to Support Evangelisation) has produced
some excellent resources and ideas for a Little Way Week (18th-24th
October). This encourages Catholics to do seven small actions
– one per day for a week – to witness to their faith
through service (see www.littlewayweek.co.uk). This theme
is inspired by the spirituality of St Therese of Lisieux and
will tie in to the visit of the relics of St Therese to England
(16th September -16th October), which the bishops hope will
act as a focus of prayer and evangelisation in the country.
Clare Ward from CASE comments, “We don’t always
need to use words to evangelise. Small daily acts and gestures
can powerfully witness to others of the love and mercy of
God.” The hope is that the initiative may encourage people
to consider volunteering for a Catholic charity long term
as an expression of Catholic Mission.
YEAR FOR PRIESTS
A couple of great ideas to mark the Year for Priests comes
from St Brigid’s in Cardiff.Have a board with the names
of every priest in the diocese for everyone to see. Then write
the names of the priests on little pieces of paper and put
in a basket. Ask people to take two names and pray for them
