HELP US TO PROMOTE The culture of PENTECOST In your PARISH

Last year all over the world, at Pentecost, thousands of people joined together in an International ‘prayer net’ praying for a ‘new Pentecost’. Why not think of ways in which you could encourage more people to join in the worldwide Novena of Pentecost prayer that runs from Ascension Thursday to Pentecost Sunday.

The Road to pentecostThe CTS (Catholic Truth Society) has published a revised edition of our Road to Pentecost prayer guide which was so successful last year. It is ideal to be sent as an Easter card to your friends, or as a gift to confirmation candidates or to your RCIA group, or just for yourself to help you prepare for Pentecost by walking with Jesus and seeing the wonderful way that God prepared for our salvation. Maybe your parish would be interested in copies too? You can get the booklet from the GOODNEWS office (see NOTICEBOARD for details), and from Spiro Sueref’s website www.Jesus4usall.com and other places (prices may vary depending on distributor).

CTS have also co-published with us an attractive Pentecost novena leaflet, inspired by Kim Kollin’s burning bush initiative, and written by Michelle Moran. A copy of this should be in this issue. If you would like to order more copies, you can obtain these from CTS price ?4.95 plus ?1 p&p per pack of 25. (nb parishes get 25% discount).

PENTECOST POSTERS
in next edition of Goodnews

Just as the Knights of St. Columba encourage us to put up small posters in our windows for Holy Week and Christmas, we want to encourage people to put up Pentecost posters. We will be enclosing these in the next issue of Goodnews for free, (any donations to defray costs gratefully accepted). We are using the same artwork used in the Pentecost novena leaflet painted by Yvonne Bell. This is very bright and vivid and we hope will be instantly recognized. As well as having this general poster promoting Pentecost we are also producing a different version with the same design but with a space for people to put details of any events they might be organizing in the Easter to Pentecost period. These will be available from Goodnews (postage and donation only). We hope, by doing this, to do our bit to raise the profile of Pentecost in the Church.

EASTER TO PENTECOST LIFE IN THE SPIRIT SEMINARS

I’m sure there will be many Easter to Pentecost Life in the Spirit seminars taking place this year. Do let us know about yours so we can advertise it on our web site as well as in the Goodnews magazine. One interesting one is the inspiration of Simon Maduckewe, the leader of a charismatic prayer group in Thornton Heath, South London. He has acted as a catalyst to bring together various groups in the London area from different cultural and language backgrounds to work together and put on the seminars jointly. The culmination will be the “praying over” for baptism in the Holy Spirit which is scheduled for Pentecost Sunday itself. As part of the celebrations, it is hoped there will be praise and worship beforehand in many different languages, echoing the gathering of the nations at the first Pentecost. The seminars will begin 18th April and finish 16th June on Sunday evenings at 7pm at St Andrew’s Church. Among the speakers are Charles Whitehead, Jenny Baker, Alex Chaves, Fr Mark White and Kristina Cooper. PENTECOST NOVENA WEB SITE

Matt van Duyvenbode, who has recently joined the National Service Committee, has created for us a Pentecost novena website, www.pentecostnovena.org/ which will have the novena prayers on line.

We are encouraging people to advertise their Easter to Pentecost events on this site, or through the link on Goodnews online www.ccr.org.uk So if you have an event you want publicizing on this site, let us know at the Goodnews office 020 7352 5298 or ccrukatonetel.com

PERPETUAL ADORATION FROM EASTER TO PENTECOST

Jesus Youth, who have spear-headed a time of perpetual adoration for the whole Season of Lent at the Centro San Lorenzo in Rome, (see page…) are following this up by doing something similar in the UK from Easter to Pentecost. This is also something we might like to become involved with or emulate locally.
