Book Review: 'Don't Forget The Holy Spirit'
"Don't Forget The Holy Spirit" by Fr Matt Anscombe is a remarkable, Spirit-filled book which will help anyone wishing to develop spiritually, says Charles Whitehead.
It very occasionally happens that I glance at a printed text only to find that I cannot put it down, but I never remember reading a book manuscript from cover to cover without a break. But "Don't Forget The Holy Spirit" is very special, clearly inspired by the Holy Spirit and Fr. Matt's personal experience over many years.
As I wrote in my foreword to the book, he is a great writer who shares his spiritual journey inspired by the Holy Spirit in a very acceptable way, maintaining the reader's interest at the highest level on every page whilst giving top quality teaching and encouragement.
At the same time, it is spiritually challenging for us and our own lives which, we claim, are lived in the power of the Spirit.
A Remarkable Spiritual Journey
Matt's own spiritual journey is remarkable, with his experience of being baptised in the Holy Spirit and being called to the priesthood happening at the same time. This shouldn't really surprise those of us who say we follow the leading of the Spirit moment by moment, but I cannot recall ever hearing about such a dramatic and life-changing moment resulting in such an amazing calling.
There is so much I could say about the contents of this wonderful book, where the combination of Matt's personal experience of living a powerful Spirit-fllled life as a parish priest, with its constant growth and excitement, is communicated to the reader page after page to such great effect.
Surprisingly there are not many books written which so strongly promote a life lived in the constant on-going power and guidance of the Holy Spirit, in spite of the fact that more and more Christians of every persuasion testify strongly to this as their daily experience..
A Very Special And Inspirational Experience
Perhaps this is why "Don't Forget The Holy Spirit" is such a special read, one that really challenges all of us who say we are alive in the Spirit, whilst at the same time encouraging those who want to know more about what it means to be filled with the Holy Spirit in today's challenging world.
I am delighted and privileged to warmly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for ways to develop spiritually in their Christian lives. At the same time, I can equally recommend the challenge it offers to those who are alive in the Spirit and already seeking to live every moment under His guidance.
Let me assure you that, in deciding to read this book, you are about to enjoy a very special and inspirational experience.
