How did you get involved in CCR?

Looking for a good night’s sleep. As a sleep-deprived young father, when I was asked by a fellow parishioner if I would like to go away on a Catholic men’s weekend, I jumped at the chance of a couple of nights’ decent sleep.

That weekend was the Harvester’s Catholic Men’s Weekend. The weekend’s format is a mixture of speakers and worship music in the main hall, plus breakout sessions for small groups. It was during one of these small group sessions that my fellow group members prayed for me, and I was baptised in the Holy Spirit.

What impact has CCR had on your life?

It transformed my life. My faith before the Harvesters weekend was on Mass on Sundays and little else. As soon as I was baptised in the Holy Spirit, I received the gift of tongues. Prayer became something natural and intimate. The Bible was no longer a dusty old book but something that spoke directly to me and the situations I faced. It has helped me share my faith with my children.

CCR has also enabled me to use my talent as a writer to, in my own small way, be a Kingdom-builder.

Above all, it has given me a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and taught me that even when I make mistakes and do the wrong thing – which is often! – his grace is sufficient for me (2 Cor 12:9).
